MINI PC Android 4.2 TV Box: Features and Performance Aspects

The MINI PC Android 4.2 TV Box offers an abundance of smart features and user-friendly features, with a powerful Cortex-A9 Quad-Core processor, 2GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, and various connectivity options. It supports up to 1080P output resolution for crystal-clear visuals and comes with preloaded apps for enhanced functionality. Customizable firmware adds a personal touch, so let’s explore its smart features in detail:

Video Conferencing

The MK808B is well-suited for video conferencing, supporting popular apps like Skype. Users can engage in voice calls seamlessly. While webcam support is available, compatibility may vary based on the specific webcam model. The device opens up possibilities for virtual meetings and communication, adding diversity to its overall functionality.

Picture Quality

The MK808B Android Stick PC boasts an acceptable display experience. Except for the Zealz GK802, all Android sticks offer 1080p output. However, the MK808B Android TV Dongle provides only 720p out of the box. Even after going into the Settings menu and changing the HDMI output format to 1080p, 60 hertz, the monitor remained at 1280 x 720 pixels. When we viewed 1080p MP4 trailers for “Riddick” and “Skyfall,” the action was fluid and the graphics were crisp, despite having to downscale to a lower quality.

A 2560p video clip was sluggish, but we wouldn’t expect to play anything higher than 1080p on this device. We flashed a custom ROM called Finless 2.1 on the device, which allowed us to set the resolution to 1080p. With the higher resolution, icons and trailers appeared sharper, and games ran smoothly. However, Netflix did not work initially but was fixed after updating the firmware.

Performance

The MK808B Android Stick PC, with its dual-core 1.6-GHz Rockchip RK3066 CPU, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal storage, delivers solid performance suitable for viewing full-HD movies, easy browsing, and even gaming like roku express. We could zoom smoothly around the course in the Jet Ski racing game “Riptide GP” at full 1080p resolution (after flashing a modified ROM).

The MK808B Android Mini PC performed well in synthetic benchmarks, with a score of 8,336 on AnTuTu and 8,274 on An3DBench. While it fell behind some other models with similar CPUs, it still outperformed the tablet category average.

Interface

The MK808B Stick PC runs Android 4.2.2 with full Google Play access and customizable taskbar buttons, including a shutdown and screenshot buttons that trigger Google Now for local weather, sports, and news updates. Because it runs Android Jelly Bean, the MK808B Android Stick PC supports Google Voice search and knowledge graph.

When we attached a USB headset and tapped the microphone button next to the search box, we could ask Google questions such as, “What movies has Tom Cruise been in?” and “Who is the richest person in the world?” We then received card-based responses on top of a list of standard search results. However, unlike most other gadgets, Google did not read back to us the answers we provided.

Preloaded Apps

It comes preloaded with many useful apps. eHomeMediaCenter enables DLNA server functionality, facilitating the sharing of media files across compatible devices. WiFi Display gives insights into hotspot signal strength, increasing connectivity awareness. PPTV offers a platform for streaming movies and shows, expanding entertainment options. Also, the inclusion of games like “Fishing Joy HD,” “Dancin’ Beats,” “Hurdling,” and “Sprint” adds recreational value to the device, so you can have some real fun right out of the box.

Hackability

For tech enthusiasts and advanced users, the MK808B offers a high level of hackability. With custom ROM support, particularly the Finless 2.1, users can enhance the device’s capabilities. Many extra launchers, as well as the option to operate your Mini PC remotely via a smartphone or tablet, increase its usability. After downloading Finless ROM and attaching the MK808B to a Windows PC we launched the Finless installer, which took around 5 minutes. Moreover, its remote-control features contribute to a more personalized user experience.

MINI PC Android 4.2 TV Box: Design Layout

The MK808B is one of the smallest and cheapest Android Sticks on the market, measuring 3.4 x 1.1 x 0.5 inches and weighing under 1.3 ounces. It is almost the same size as the Measy U2C (3.5 x 1.6 x 0.4 inches, 1.2 ounces) but lacks the latter’s HDMI male port. The MK808B is not just one of the lightest, but also one of the most visually appealing Mini PCs we’ve seen. It has a soft-touch black surface and an elegant grille on the top with a stylish TV logo.

Ports

  • Mini-HDMI female port (requires included mini-HDMI-male-to-HDMI-male connector) for connection to TV/monitor.
  • Two mini USB ports: one for charging, another for peripherals (comes with mini USB AC adapter and full-size USB port).
  • MicroSD card slot for storage expansion (up to 32GB).
  • Built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0.

MINI PC Android 4.2 TV Box: Alternatives

If you’re looking for a versatile mini PC that can handle everything from casual browsing to demanding multimedia tasks these are the best options. You can choose the Intel Compute Stick for light on-the-go computing or turn to the AWOW NY41S Mini PC Stick for a powerful multimedia hub that fits in your pocket. But, the choice between them depends totally on your requirements and budget.

Intel Compute Stick

The Intel Compute Stick is a pocket-size wonder, barely larger than a flash drive. Don’t underestimate its size, though. Packing an Intel Atom x5-Z8350 processor and 2GB of RAM, it punches above its weight when it comes to basic tasks. Go through everyday web browsing, check emails, watch YouTube videos, or even play some lighter games – all on your big screen!

Its compact design shines for travel and presentations. Slip it in your pocket and transform any TV into a rudimentary computer, eliminating the need for bulky laptops. Connecting the device is simple with its HDMI port and built-in Wi-Fi. However, keep in mind its limitations. The small storage (32GB) can fill up quickly, and its Atom processor won’t handle resource-intensive tasks like video editing or heavy gaming.

AWOW NY41S Mini PC Stick

The AWOW NY41S Mini PC Stick is powered by an Intel Celeron J4105 processor and 8GB of RAM, it tackles demanding tasks with ease. Stream 4K media seamlessly, edit photos and videos, and play even heavier games, the NY41S handles it all without breaking a sweat. Beyond raw power, it offers impressive connectivity options. Dual HDMI outputs let you connect to two displays simultaneously, perfect for dual-screen multitasking.

Gigabit Ethernet and Wi-Fi 6 ensure smooth and reliable network connections. The generous 64GB storage offers ample space for apps and files, expandable via the microSD card slot. Of course, its size is still quite compact, making it a travel-friendly option. But compared to the Intel Compute Stick, it loses some portability due to its slightly larger body and additional ports.

Conclusion

The MINI PC Android 4.2 TV Box occupies a unique space in the overwhelming market of streaming devices. While it’s Android 4.2 operating system might seem a bit older in a world dominated by newer versions, it’s not without its potential. If you’re looking for a streaming powerhouse for demanding tasks or the newest apps, newer devices are readily available. However, if you’re on a budget, need a simple multimedia companion, or enjoy tinkering with older tech, the MINI PC might be worth a look.
For simple tasks like browsing the web, playing basic games, watching YouTube, or enjoying older streaming services, the MINI PC might be sufficient. However, its older Android version may result in slower performance and limited app availability, but it also offers a more compact and portable option for those on a budget. Overall, the MINI PC is best suited for those who prioritize affordability and basic functionality over cutting-edge technology.
